Cory Legal Defense Fundraiser Guidelines

Cory Legal Defense (CLD) was formed to raise funds to help Cory pay for his legal defense bills. CLD has been involved with several successful fundraisers. However, in order to help Cory obtain the financial support he desperately needs, we encourage you to hold your own fundraiser event for Cory.

We will certainly offer advice and suggestions as to how to organize a fundraiser. Here are guidelines for holding your own fundraiser event for Cory:

  • Your responsibility as fundraiser will be to raise funds and deposit them into the CLD account. By depositing funds in the CLD account, the funds will be accounted for and disbursed in order to pay Cory's legal fees. This will provide an audit trail which is very important to Cory.
  • CLD's responsibility will be to account for and disburse funds that are deposited in the CLD account. CLD will not be responsible in any manner for the fundraiser or for safety and handling of donations obtained at the fundraiser.
  • Donations are not tax deductible. Sales tax will not be accounted for by CLD - any tax liability must be handled by the you, fundraiser, with only after-tax donations being made to CLD.
  • CLD will not be liable or responsible in any way for the fundraiser.
  • Personal donations to Cory's family will not be processed by CLD. All funds donated through CLD will go toward Cory's legal expenses.
  • At the fundraiser, you will be responsible for monitoring and safeguarding the donations.
  • When the fundraiser is complete, you (the fundraiser) must tabulate the total amount of checks and the total amount of cash and notify CLD of these amounts within 24 hours.
  • You must deposit all checks and cash donations to CLD into the CLD account (details to be provided) within 24 hours of the fundraiser.
  • You will provide copies of all deposit slips to CLD within 48 hours after deposit.
