ICE Agent Found Not Guilty In Campaign Ad Trial

By CBS 4 Denver

A jury in the trial for a government official accused of using restricted criminal information for a campaign ad found him not guilty on both counts Wednesday.

Cory Voorhis is an Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who faced federal charges of exceeding authorized access to government computers. Prosecutors alleged Voorhis obtained information from a database about plea deals Gov. Bill Ritter made with illegal immigrants when he was district attorney of Denver.

Prosecutors said the Beauprez campaign later ran an attack ad against Ritter with the information. Voorhis faces up to three years in prison if convicted.

Voorhis' attorneys said he was exercising his First Amendment right.

Jurors received their instructions Tuesday before beginning deliberations.
